4/27 Savannah to Edisto S.C. 7 hours

We left Savannah's Thunderbolt marina at 8 A.M. (Vicky time) . At seven Cutter began barking to let us know the complimentary Krispy Kreme donuts and newspaper had arrived. After a quick trip to the green green grass and a few cups of coffee we started on the morning. We cruised through the rivers and marshes past Daufuskie Island into Calibougue Sound the home of Hilton Head's famous red and white striped lighthouse. Ahead of us was a power cat which we mistook for another PDQ. No problem, John started to talk to him on the radio anyway and became lifelong friends. Mike called us at Skull creek and we both fuel up before continuing together for the rest of the day. "Off Call " is a 36 Foot Fountain Peugeot motor cat. After cruising past Beaufort S.C. we were treated to and air show at Paris Island by practicing marines. We thought we saw shallow water yesterday, but nothing like what we were about to encounter. Fortunately, our PDQ only draws 2 and 1/2 feet and we are accustomed to running the shallow marshes of our own neighborhood. We stopped short when Mike and Suzanne hit the sandbar, but when trying to assist them we found our own. The tide soon came in and we arrived at Edisto Marina where we were told the schoaling had changed the channels and not to try to go too far on low tide.
"Off Call" had a fuel injector problem and the dockmaster called a mechanic. A true experiwoence, when he came holding a Heinekin in one hand and a wrench in the other followed by his tow assistants, a brown and a black lab. That's when we learned about JB Weld, a glue all, fix all metal epoxy stuff. A whopping $20.00 and it worked.
