6/4 Quebec to Sorel

We were told to leave to take advantage of the tides. so we left at 11:30 AM. We forgot about the 20 to 30 knot southwest winds and the fog (which we found out was really smoke from the fires up North.) Upon leaving the lock we realized current, wind and waves were real navigational factors. We followed closely our garmin path on the way up. Marinas answer on 68 when they feel like it. We have no paper charts for the area ( they would be in French anyway) and the fancy new Garmin chip doesn't give marina phone numbers in Canada. At 7:30 PM we slowly crossed an area of very shallow water and locals decided the marina must be for locals only as our depth alarm kept going off and moved on . We followed a boat into Sorel Marina when our call to them was ignored. The dock hand said there was no room but we must have really looked worn out when he kept trying and found a slip for the evening.

We were greeted by a group of local boaters standing on the dock. They welcomed us, helped us with our lines and shared a glass of wine The next day the girls took Vicky shopping.
Reminded us of home and Beach Marine.
